Book review  Anaesthetic and ObstetricManagement of High-Risk Pregnancy, 3rd edition Editor Sanjay DattaThis book vividly illustrates the need forpartnership between obstetricians andanaesthetists in delivering care to high-risk womenin labour. It is a good attempt at encouraging amultidisciplinary team approach on the labourward and serves as an informative source for bothobstetricians and anaesthetists. It is a well-writtenbook in its third edition. A new chapter on criticalcare anaesthesia for high-risk parturients has beenincluded in this edition. The unique feature of this book is that eachchapter is written by an anaesthetist and anobstetrician, which highlights the problems fromboth perspectives. All the chapters cover medical, obstetric and anaesthetic management for thespecific problems included in the book. The book covers problems relevant to all the systems andfurthermore includes problems specific to labourin high-risk situations. The layout of the chaptersis good overall and they have a consistent style butmay, perhaps, have benefited from bullet points orsummary boxes at the end for quick reference. It isa hardbound copy with over 500 pages and wouldbe suitable as a reference book.I would recommend this book as a part of a library collection and I think it would be a usefultextbook for obstetric anaesthetists, maternal andfetal medicine specialists and obstetricians with aspecial interest in high-risk pregnancies.Reviewer Manjiri M KhareConsultant in Maternal and Fetal MedicineUniversity Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust,Leicester, UK.Springer-Verlag, 2004ISBN 0387004432Hardback, 555 pages, £115.5010.1576/toag.8.1.062.27216 Book review  2006;8:62 10.1576/toag.8.1.062.27216 www.rcog.org.uk/togonline The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist62  ’  2006 Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
