LABORATORY REPORTS EXPECTATIONS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Use a quadrille-lined book with pages numbered and fastened in place. You will need to duplicate all labs so that I may grade one and you will keep the other in your notebook. Save the first two pages for a Table of Contents. This should be kept current.   LABORATORY REPORTS EXPECTATIONS 1.   Use a quadrille-lined book with pages numbered and fastened in place. It is expected that some errors will occur you will not have an error-free book and this is expectedfrom all scientists. FORMAT NameDate of data collectionPartner/s DESCRIPTIVE TITLEPURPOSE  Sentence/two about what you are trying to do and HOW. PROCEDURE  Picture summary of written procedures  May include brief descriptions of each step  MUST INCLUDE SAFETY and CLEAN-UP information!  MUST INCLUDE the size and type of apparatus used. DATA  Qualitative data  –  observations  Quantitative data o Organized (tables where appropriate) o Labeled clearly, sig figs, units o Spaced out neatly !  You can use the left page (back) to take notes during lab, but REWRITE NEATLY in the final copy! CALCULATIONS & GRAPHS  1 example for each type of calculation done (even basic ones)  Label axes on any graphs, use rulers (use graph paper if not done in lab notebook). QUESTIONS  You do not need to write the question.  Answer fully and with COMPLETE SENTENCES! I should know what the question was by the answer you gave. SOURCES OF ERROR  3 ways you may have introduced error into the results, and  HOW were the results changed  –  follow the error through to the calculation it might affect  You do not need to use complete sentences (use a flow chart). CONCLUSION  At least 2 paragraphs o 1 st : Revisit purpose and methods used in the lab, and state results. o 2 nd : Describe at least 3 theories/skills/concepts used or learned in the lab (not including those in the 1 st paragraph).  These should be a combination of content and lab skills (new apparatus, stoichiometry, etc.) o If you made major errors:  3 rd : What went wrong and what could you have changed to make this a more effective lab).  GRADINGSection Points Possible Title, Date, Partners 1Purpose 2Procedures 2Data 5Calculations & Graphs Easy lab: 5 or Hard lab: 10Questions Easy: 5 or Hard: 10Sources of Error 5Conclusion Easy lab: 5 or Hard lab: 10 Total Easy lab: /30 or Hard lab: /45 I will take off for EACH occurrence of the following:    Invalid data/information o   Incorrect answers o   False data    Missing/insufficient data o   Too few data points on graphs o   Too few trials o   Graphs/tables unlabeled/mislabeled o   Example calculations missing o   Poor explanations o   Missing sections    Incorrect spacing between sections    Incomplete sentences    Messiness/Carelessness o   Scratch-outs with more than one line through o   Illegible handwriting (including letters and numbers) o   Tables and graphs poorly represented o   Misspellings and poor punctuation
