  • 2. Meaning  An Oral presentation is the delivery of a speech to an audience.  An oral presentation simply involves explaining something to an audience. In the classroom, teachers grade these oral presentations based on the quality of the information presented as well as the method used in presenting it.  Oral communication implies communication through mouth. It includes individuals conversing with each other, be it direct conversation or telephonic conversation.  Speeches, presentations, discussions are all forms of oral communication. Oral communication is generally recommended when the communication matter is of temporary kind or where a direct interaction is required.  Face to face communication (meetings, lectures, conferences, interviews, etc.) is significant so as to build a rapport and trust.
  • 3. Definition  Oral communication is the process of verbally transmitting information and ideas from one individual or group to another. Oral communication can be either formal or informal.

Purpose of an Oral Presentation  The oral presentation meaning should be stuck in mind before begin  The main idea of an oral presentation is to inform of something important end listener too.  An oral presentation should be entertaining, especially, it makes people to remember what is say.

Benefits of Oral Presentation  Oral Presentation is one of the best platforms where non verbal cues are combined with effective verbal skills adding a broader aspect to your presentation.  It allows individuals to present their thoughts and views confidently in-front of a live audience.  This task requires lots of efforts, ideas and enthusiasm, therefore proper planning, preparation, and practice gets important if you really aim to deliver an effective oral presentation.  A strong plan is required for conveying your thoughts and viewpoints related with a particular topic. For this, presenter needs to collect required material and information, generate new ideas, and organize them in a proper flow.  Prepare well before delivering a presentation. Initiate with a topic slide. This will provide viewers an opportunity to prepare themselves for attending the presentation. Add a rationale and do not forget to include conclusion.

Drawbacks in oral presentation  Relying only on oral presentation may not be sufficient as business presentation is formal and very organized.  Oral presentation is less authentic than written presentation as they are informal and not as organized as written presentation.  Oral presentation is time-saving as far as daily interactions are concerned, but in case of meetings, long speeches consume lot of time and are unproductive at times.  Oral communications are not easy to maintain and thus they are unsteady.  There may be misunderstandings as the information is not complete and may lack essentials.  It requires attentiveness and great receptivity on part of the receivers/audience.  Oral presentation (such as speeches) is not frequently used as legal records except in investigation work.
  • 12. Tips to organize perfect oral presentation  Use relevant images and graphics to maintain audience interest. If you use PowerPoint for your presentations,  Try to avoid overloading slides with excess of information and numbers.  Be cautious while choosing the colour of text and background. It is also advisable to avoid using distractive background which can divert the focus of your audience.  Adequate font size should be used. 32 point for text and 36 point for the headings.  Trick to highlight important text with prominent colours has always proven to be of great success. This not only attracts quick user attention, but also helps in better retention of your text.  Add simple and easily understandable figures rather than using complicated ones.  Try to maintain a proper sequence of slides so that your audience can easily grab the matter which is being discussed.
